| Football Club Osijek was founded in 1947. by the name of Proleter, and on tradition of Football Club Slavia Osijek who has competing in first league from 1923. to 1940.. Later Proleter changed name in Slavonija after that finally in Football Club Osijek. Club colours was red and blue, until 70s when it was changed in white and blue. The Club was in second league till 80s with continous attempts for progress in first league which was in different ways obstructed. Finnaly in year 1977. club enters first league when he competed, with exeption of one season,.until the end of ex-country. The biggest success was 6. place in year 1984., and semifinals of the cup. In 1992. begins croatian league. In first season, playing all games outside home stadion - Gradski Vrt (because of war), NK Osijek finished as third. In following two seasons follows weaker results, but in seson 1994/95. leading by first scorer of the league : Robert Špehar, NK Osijek finished again third, and first time in history of the club reserve a place in one european cup. After knocking from UEFA cup by Slovan of Bratislava, two season must past till new success. Then Osijek was again third in league and next season Anderlecht was too strong. It was 3:1 for Osijek in Croatia and 0:2 in Bruxelles. That season leading by Jurica Vranješ, Osijek take first trophy : Croatian Cup. It was shocking game. FC Cibalia Vinkovci was leading by goal to 93. minute when Mitu scored a goal for Osijek, and then in first extra-time Lasić scores a Golden goal and brings a trophy to Osijek. In season 1999/00. Osijek was knocked from UEFA cup by West Ham. It was 0:3 and 1:3. In that season the club was again third in croatian league. But season 2000/1. was a true renesance : first, victory over FC Dinamo Zagreb after 9 years, than victory over Brondby of Denmark (2:1 for Osijek in Copenhagen, and 0:0 in Osijek).In second round of UEFA cup two victories over Rapid Vienna (2:1 in Osijek and 2:0 in Vienna), but in third round Osijek was knocked out from the cup by Slavia Prague (victory in Osijek 2:0, and loss in Prague 1:5). Osijek finished year 2000. as first in croatian league after 17 matches. In second part of season NK Osijek hasn't played very well, and club finished third. |
